INNOFOOD HUB INITIATIVE FIELD DAY IN HEMP FARM

On 23 July, the project “Management of Short Supply Chains of Biologically Valuable Products and Development of Local Markets”, No. 35BV-KK-18-1-06620-PR001 members and partners participated in an outdoor day organized at Alfonsas Riauba cannabis farm, Gudeliai village, Kazlų Rūda municipality.

Upon arrival at A. Riauba's cannabis farm, it was possible to get acquainted with the research carried out by EIP activity group scientists, presented in the poster presentations: “Prerequisites for organizing short food supply chains” and EIP activity group “INNOFOOD HUB” by dr. Vilma Atkočiūnienė, dr. Gintarė Vaznonienė, dr. Ilona Kiaušienė and dr. Rasa Pakeltienė. It was also possible to get acquainted with the researcher of Vytautas Magnus University, Faculty of Agronomy, according to the report of dr. Aurelia Paulauskienė “Cannabis Seed Products” and dr. VMU Faculty of Agricultural Engineering Egidijus Zvicevičius, dr. Aušra Čiplienė and dr. Algirdas Raila's report "Utilization of solar energy in medicinal and spice drying technologies".

The field day began with a presentation of the Alfonsas and Nerijus Riauba fibrous hemp farm, a demonstration, and a discussion of good practices in harvesting technologies. This was followed by a presentation of the activities of the EIP activity group INNOFOOD HUB to hemp growers. During the presentation, the main goals and activities of the project in absorbing new markets and organizing short food supply chains, as well as opportunities for cooperation with the Association of Cannabis Growers, Processors and Business Innovators (KAPVIA) were presented during February.

The requirements of the EU-published "Green Course" for agriculture and opportunities for developing the cannabis business (R. Čiūtas, KAPVIA) and the Guidelines for Ensuring the Quality of Biologically Valuable Food (Dr. Dalius Serafinas and Saulė Serafinienė, co-owners of UAB "Kvalitetas" and "Urban food" were also discussed).

After a break during the tasting of cannabis products, discussions continued about the increased biological value of cannabis raw materials in foods and their health benefits. Finally, the field day was discussed, and personalized discussions with the participants of the field days on the issues of concern to them were continued.
